Philosophy of Care
As a Certified Professional Midwife (CPM) student, my philosophy of care centers around the principles of holistic, individualized, and evidence-based care that respects and empowers the birthing person and their family.

-
Respect for Individuality: Each birthing person is unique, with their own values, preferences, and experiences. My approach is to provide personalized care that respects the individual’s choices and cultural background, fostering a collaborative partnership.
-
Holistic Approach: I believe in caring for the whole person—physically, emotionally, and spiritually. This involves not just addressing the clinical aspects of pregnancy and birth but also supporting the emotional well-being and mental health of the client.
-
Empowerment and Education: Empowering clients through education is fundamental. I provide comprehensive, evidence-based information so that clients can make informed decisions about their care. This includes educating them about pregnancy, childbirth, postpartum, and newborn care.
-
Informed Choice and Consent: Respecting informed choice and consent is paramount. Clients should be active participants in their care, making decisions that align with their values and needs. This involves transparent communication about risks, benefits, and alternatives to any procedure or intervention.
-
Continuity of Care: Building a trusting relationship through continuity of care is essential. I strive to be a consistent and reliable presence throughout the prenatal, birth, and postpartum periods, providing seamless care and support.
-
Natural Birth and Minimal Interventions: I support the physiologic birthing process and advocate for minimal interventions unless medically necessary. I trust in the body’s innate ability to birth and aim to create a safe, supportive environment that allows this process to unfold naturally.
-
Cultural Sensitivity and Inclusivity: Providing culturally sensitive and inclusive care is critical. I am committed to understanding and respecting diverse cultural practices and beliefs, ensuring that all clients feel seen, heard, and respected.
-
Evidence-Based Practice: My practice is grounded in the latest evidence-based research and clinical guidelines. I continuously seek to update my knowledge and skills to provide the highest standard of care.
-
Support for Natural and Alternative Therapies: I am open to and supportive of natural and alternative therapies that clients may choose to incorporate into their care plan, provided they are safe and evidence-based.
-
Advocacy: I advocate for the rights and needs of my clients within the healthcare system and the broader community. This includes supporting access to resources and services that promote health and well-being.
This philosophy guides my practice as a CPM student, ensuring that I provide compassionate, respectful, and competent care to all clients.
